In this episode of the Everything Detroit Sports Podcast, I will be going into what the Detroit Lions are going to do in the 2021 NFL draft. The Lions made major changes this offseason letting go most of the coaching staff including the head coach (who was fired late in the season) and many major assistants. Not only that, they also fired their General Manager (the same time they fired the head coach) who was with the team for four years prior. And to top it off, months after the Lions New GM was hired, they traded longtime franchise quarterback Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams, who was drafted first overall all the way back in 2009 which was the year after the lions had that infamous 0–16 season. As most people see it, the Lions got a good return for Stafford from the Rams. New Lions GM Brad Holmes (who was hired from the Rams) acquired two future first round picks, a third round pick this year, and quarterback Jared Goff. With a new GM, new coaching staff, and new quarterback, the lions look like a completely different team than before. With all the changes throughout the organization, it is very unclear on what direction they will go in the draft, which is coming up later this month. Will they go in the offensive direction and help out new QB Jared Goff (who may or may not be the future in Detroit)? Or will they try to fix the defense that was amongst the worst in the league last year? Tune in to the EDS podcast for more lions draft insight!
